PUTRAJAYA: The Communications Ministry has welcomed the official complaints mechanism introduced by the Malaysian Media Council (MMM) as a professional and institutional channel to address issues related to journalistic practices and media ethics in the country.
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the introduction of the mechanism, which is now fully operational, marks an important step towards self-regulation of the media industry, in line with the government's aspiration to ensure more responsible news reporting that adheres to high ethical standards.
"I would like to congratulate and welcome the introduction of the complaints mechanism by the Malaysian Media Council, which has announced an official mechanism for complaints that is now open and fully operational," he said at his weekly press conference here today.
Yesterday, MMM announced that its official complaints mechanism is now open and fully operational, and complaints can be submitted via email to aduan@majlismedia.my or through its official website at https://majlismedia.my/complaints/.
The mechanism is administered under the Code of Conduct and Complaints Committee, which serves as an independent, transparent and non-punitive channel, in line with the principles of media self-regulation.
On a separate matter, Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesman, said the Friends of Ministry (FOM) for each ministry will be restructured following the appointment of several members of parliament supporting the Madani Government to positions in the administration.
He also said the appointment of the Government Backbenchers Club (BBC) secretary would be discussed following the appointment of Sekijang MP Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa as the new BBC chairman.
"The composition of the Special Select Committees will also be reviewed and managed through processes in the Dewan Rakyat," he said.
The former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) replaced Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who has since been appointed deputy economy minister.
